Like photoshop, but without the high cost

GIMP is an alternative to PhotoShop (yes it's free). It's under the GNU license and is completely open source so if you feel like building your own modifications to the program, feel free.

To date, I haven't actually tried it, but I probably should. My current program (Ulead Photoimpact) is version 7 while the newest is version 12.
