Trans-Union Canada asks I include both sides of acceptable photocopied ID, for free yearly check of my Credit File
- Driver's Lic, Canadian Passport, Certificate of Indian Status, Birth Certificate, Permanent Resident card,
Citizenship & Immigration form, Health Card, Old Age Security Card, Department of National Defense card

Additional pieces of Acceptable Identification:
- Utility bill indicating current address (within 60 days of issue), credit card statement indicating current address (within 60 days of issue),
- Signed Credit card, CNIB card, Social Insurance Card, T4 slip (current tax year), Notice of Assessments (current tax year),
- GST/HST Refunds (current tax year), Child Tax Benefits (current tax year)

ALL of these IDs are critical information, which items are best...

I've used Birth Certificate & Driver's Lic & Internet bill

TU says; my Social Insurance Card {SSN equivalent} is on file. I have never given it to them

Eric from Canada can't freeze the credit file

In fairness to LL I did a 3rd try and got a phone call from LL 30 minutes later. Although in that 30 minutes I could've carried a lot out. of JC Pennys. Turns out LL only works at participating merchants.

Even though I have the ONLY real id theft protection mechanism (credit freezes), I would never share my SSN because there are more kinds of ID theft than credit-based. If a criminal has a card made with your number and uses it the next time they get arrested, YOU will have an arrest record. Many people have reported significant difficulty (and in some cases were never able to) remove the false information. How exactly do you think Lifelock is going to protect you? With their "million dollar guarantee"? They've already been sued class action for false advertising and Todd Davis's identity has been stolen multiple times since he started his ad campaign with his social. So if HIS identity isn't safe, why would yours be?

What a wealth of info here. Most every other site with a review looks like they lifted the info off the LL site right down to the black and red. There's downsides to just about everything, but very little offered 'con' info on LL. It was worth going thru mountains of repetitive garbage to find your info. Thanks Jeremy.

Yes Lifelock is a joke/ripoff . I have now tested them twice and both times they failed gloriously . Even worse the second time I used my ss# with my company name and an unrelated p.o. box and was given over $2000.00 in credit over the fax machine site unseen . Everyone there tells a different story ( lie )..

That does sound like some kind of scam if you're not even a customer of theirs. I think caution is warranted as you've already figured out.

This site is terribly biased against the fraud alert industry, LifeLock in particular.
As a director with LL, I can assure anyone interested, LL has TWO servers devoted to our business.
We only use the highest quality staples, floppy disks and hire only clean, legal looking illegal mexicans to insure the security of our clients.
People can take compfort in knowing that our employees are ALWAYS looking at ALL customer information for ways to make our efforts more effective.

I've been contacted by a representative from LifeLock claiming that my ID was compromised and I'm not even a customer of LifeLock.
Has anyone ever heard of anyone they know with this same situation?
I can't even contact LifeLock to report this or get any feedback from them about it.
Am I the only person to have this strangeness happen to them?
Is it possible that this is just an elaborate scam?
If this is the case, good grief, the only safe place to be is to be buried in a cemetary...
The gov does NOTHING to remedy the rampant scam problems and there are outfits like these "fraud protection" companies that do nothing either (except rip-off naive customers and taxpayers.

Jeremy,

Keep fighting the good fight. As a Phoenix area resident, I am all too familiar with Lifelock and its disreputable CEO, and its business practices. I was actually hopeful that the $35 million fine the FTC gave them, it would be game over for them, but new investment has given them a short reprieve from the grim reaper.

Ordinarily I would champion a company in my area, but Todd Davis' company deserves all of the bad press it has received. The company is a mess and employees would be wise to look elsewhere for employment, and customers to look elsewhere for ID theft protection (there are reputable competitors out there).

It will be a brighter day when justice, however delay, is finally served and Lifelock closes its doors forever.
