Here's an online chart of about 500 different major companies along with their contact information and the numbers to press to completely bypass the automated system and talk with a real person.
Let's be clear: automated systems can often help people faster than real people and prevent companies from wasting too much time and money handling common, every-day issues. However, there are several instances where only a human operator is appropriate:
- When I know when my issue is outside the scope of anything the automated system can handle
- When the system asks for all my information only to have the operator ask me again when they finally pick up
- When a company uses voice activated systems
It's a great feeling to know that you can get by their attempts to discourage you with the press of (a few) buttons.
