If You Want a Mac, Keep in Mind that Leopard is Around the Corner

(Image is in the Public Domain)

The Mac website is tearing Vista to shreds listing how many of its "cool features" have been in Max OS X since 2001. As I'm reading the nearly snide snickering articles about why Mac is (and has always been in their opinion) better than PCs, I noticed one important thing about the upcoming Leopard system.

Apparently, they plan to have a type of content management built into the OS which means that if you open a file to find it corrupted or accidentally made changes you didn't intend and saved it, the Operating System will let you "go back in time" to see earlier versions of that document.

This is not the same as Windows' System Restore feature that keeps backups of your system files, this is for each individual file and can be accessed without system restart.

FYI – Previous versions has been a feature of Windows 2003 since it came out and is a core feature of Vista as well. It is not in Home Basic, but is in Premium as well as Ultimate and all of the Business/Enterprise versions. This was a feature that Apple announce WELL after it was already implemented by MS. Apple intends to try and take it transactional, however, by allowing you to restore individual records within applications as well…. But that’s not really the same feature.

I’m trying to take your site seriously, but you really need to do a little more research and not just shoot from the hip. If you plan to switch, get on with it. You will quickly find there is no perfect world and that you may not be happy no matter which you choose.

I’ve never heard of or seen the feature in Windows, but I’ve never used Windows 2003 or Vista versions higher than Home either (much like the people I designed this site for). But if you say the feature is there, I’ll take your word for it. However, I think my point is still valid. Unless Joe Normalguy ends up with Windows 2003 or Vista Premium or better, he’ll never see it. All versions of Mac OS are the same so with a Mac, he would.

As for shooting from the hip, I’m quite comfortable in doing so. I report on what I see and hear to the best of my ability hoping it will help someone. If something is incorrect, I hope I will discover it soon or have some helpful person correct me. In such, thanks for helping to refine the data.

Trusting Companies

Store, online or off, are not known for being fair and helpful unless it benefits them to be so. Good deals exist, but many are bad deals in disguise. It's not in your best interests to be too trusting with any of them.
